The Crossroads
Joe Bonamassa
In 2008, I heard 30 year old American, Joe Bonamassa, play on Paul Jones' BBC Radio Two show and Shaun and myself went to see him at the Cheese and Grain in Frome. We were struck by how Bonamassa and ourselves were playing and were influenced by, the very same music, Sixties British Blues Revival. Bonamassa lends a modern production and sound to the music. Here was music that we all liked and so we started playing some of his tracks at our gigs and they went down really well. Four years ago Bonamassa was playing to 30-40 people in small bars. In May 2009 he sold out the Royal Albert Hall and he has a worldwide following. To facilitate a fuller, more modern sound Simon, another musician with a long performing history, joined us on keyboards, along with his Hammond organ and revolving Leslie speaker and we evolved into a four piece band playing 'A Tribute To Joe Bonamassa'. We can also play a mixed set of mostly blues/ blues rock. Following the departure of Nigel Wharry we have been joined by Tim Watts on drums.
![]() LATE FEBRUARY UPDATE
The gig at The Rollestone Swindon was very well attended, with lots of people who were into the the genre and Joe Bonamassa.
How do I know ? Well because I could see them all singing the words to the songs ! We got two encores and as a result, raided the back numbers and played Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. We intended to drop this track but, yet again, it went down really well and is likely to be back in the set by popular demand. It was a great atmosphere and we have been invited back to The Rollestone on Saturday 27th November 2010. After the gig we were approached for further work around the Swindon area - so a good night, thanks to everyone who made us so welcome.
MARCH UPDATE
Another very well attended gig and another good night at The Rose & Crown, Warminster. Thanks to landlady Emma for making us very welcome and inviting us back in November. (We like that)
A couple of journalists were in attendance, so we hope to get a write-up in the Warminster Journal and at www.warminsterlife.co.uk which is a website featuring the weird, wonderful and wacky animal , human & alien FUN LIFE, I think we must qualify somewhere there, Trev & Plug !
Thanks also to Simon of Warminster Web who promoted the gig for us.
Thanks to all who turned out and supported us, we'll be back in November.
Well, what's new with the band ? Probably the most promising development is that we are being asked back to every venue we play.Word is slowly spreading and we've even had to turn the odd gig down (blimey). As things stand, we have time to catch our breath before a busy April where we have three gigs starting with The Bell By The Green in Devizes on Friday 9th April.
